What's the best music documentary or concert film you've seen?
Stop Making Sense.
Johnathan Demme does justice to what was an amazing performance by the Talking Heads.
Maybe it was that I saw the same show in Phoenix a few days before/after this was filmed in Los Angeles.
It wasn't just about the aural, but the visual spectacle makes this one huge dance party.
closet guitar god.
I just read Lisa's post about Tucson and thought it deserved some good ol' mood music...from one of the cowpunk denziens that call it home. live from the Club Congress a few years back, he sings about his home :)
and as long as Lisa is throwing up pretty sunset pics, here's one I took:
About living in Tucson was seeing Rainer Ptacek play guitar.
Rainer wasn't really what anybody would envision as a Guitar God. In fact, it was as normal to see him riding his beat up ten-speed down fourth avenue in the heat of summer on his way to work fixing guitars in the basement of the Chicago Store as it was seeing him hold an audience in a trancelike spell at a club.
Seeing him play was always amazing. He didn't really fit into any mold...although he played old national steel guitars with a slide, and dug deep into the roots of blues, the music seemed much more haunting.
I just though of this becuase I came across this on YouTube...

I think if I took the average age of the songs, then they'd be old enough to be a finely aged bordeaux....
Someone point me to something that will blow my mind. I don't get out as often as I used to ;)
oh man....talk about something that makes me feel old. Born: Do Wah Diddy Diddy by Manfred Mann. When I turned 21? Cherish by Kool and the Gang. Funny...I don't feel too connected to either of them. 1985 was probably about the time I was seeing the red hot chili peppers in a cowboy bar in Tucson. Or Stiv Bators...or Johnny Thunders...So....I was on a completely different track at that point in time. Hmmmy. hillel, stiv and johnny are all dead now. *sigh*
Here's one of Johnny Thunders 'hits'...for your listening pleasure
