We have some friends who graciously invited my family up for the weekend (and longer) at their house in Burney, CA.
It's about 50 miles east of Redding, CA. It was pretty nice. I've always been kind of dismayed with 3-day weekends in California, in that it seems like anyplace we went, we'd simply sharing whatever place it was with a million other people. Not this place.
I knew I was in for a good time just driving up to their house and saw this for a sunset:
The mornings were cold and icy and we could hear the Canadian Geese all squawking across the road at the front of the property. They'd fly over the house when they took off heading North.
This also seems to be an area of California that's big with fisherman. Apparently there are tons of places to go fly fishing for both native, as well as hatchery-born trout.
Burney Falls was about five miles down a dirt road.
I guess it was mostly cool because it was so far away from anything vaguely reminding me of some commercial vacation spot.
I'll try and upload the short video where you can hear the cacophony of all the waterfowl across the road, but for now, I'm crashing
It was pretty cold there too. I kind of liked how the frost clung to the dead oak leaves.
